Digital Video Recorders configured for physical security applications record video signals from closed circuit television cameras for detection and documentation purposes. Many are designed to record audio as well. DVRs have evolved into devices that are feature rich and provide services that exceed the simple recording of video images that was previously done through VCRs. A DVR CCTV system provides a multitude of advanced functions over VCR technology including video searches by event, time, date and camera. There is also much more control over quality and frame rate allowing disk space usage to be optimized and the DVR can also be set to overwrite the oldest security footage should the disk become full. In some DVR security systems remote access to security footage using a PC can also be achieved by connecting the DVR to a LAN network or the internet.

The Pelco DX4000 Series digital video recorder (DVR) is an entry-level, professional digital video recorder that not only replaces the traditional VCR and multiplexer combination but also offers the benefits derived from the latest in digital video processing. Designed to work with today’s broadband networks, the DX4000 uses MPEG-4 compression, allowing the user the ability to view and control the DVR across a local or wide area network. Additionally, the smaller file size produced by the MPEG-4 compression standard, allows for longer storage times compared with traditional DVR technologies. With the ability to record at resolutions up to 704 x 480, the DX4000 Series DVR captures crystal clear pictures, creating effective footage for later use and retrieval. With the ability to record up to 120 images per second in CIF resolution users can also record full-motion video if desired. Individual adjustments are possible on a per input basis to optimize the DX4000 to meet a given installation’s requirements for video retention. Video critical for investigation and archiving can be easily exported to a USB memory device or an optional CD-RW.
